This was
our meeting about Self-Reliance, and the most interesting one by far. There is
this one quote that I relate directly to Corn-Pone Opinions: “Society is a
joint-stock company, in which members agree, for the better securing of his
bread to each shareholder, to surrender the liberty and culture of the eaters.”
For me this is exactly what Twain´s black preacher meant.
Here are
other things I learned:
- The virtue in most requests is conformity.
- Manhood is a man that is nonconformist.
- Although he says that's there are some qualities of a child that we should take, we should always try to reach manhood.
- Life is for one self and not for a spectacle.
- No one can give you rights.
